State receiving insurance settlement funds

Sandy Praeger, Kansas Commissioner of Insurance, has announced today the Kansas Insurance Department (KID) will receive $510,146 in settlement funds from seven different insurance companies following a review of the companies’ death benefit practices.

Nurse to repay nearly $80,000 after filing fraudulent medical claims

A McPherson County nurse who pleaded guilty to six counts of insurance fraud will repay nearly $80,000 in restitution to an insurance company for fraudulent claims which she supported by forged medical treatment records and billing documents.

Final Monumental Life Settlement Scholarship recipients announced

Seven Kansas college students are recipients of financial aid scholarships totaling $6,500 for the 2014 spring semester from the Monumental Life Settlement African-American Scholarship program administered by the Kansas Insurance Department.

Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger is currently making the annual funds distribution to state and local firefighter relief organizations. More than $11.6 million is being distributed among 577 local Firefighters Relief Associations (FRAs) across the state.

Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger is seeking applicants for six $1,000 scholarships and one $500 scholarship to be awarded to African-American students enrolled in Kansas universities, colleges or community colleges during the 2014 spring semester.

New Consumer Assistance director, managers named

Sandy Praeger, Commissioner of Insurance, has named Steve O’Neil as Consumer Assistance Division director and LeAnn Crow and Elizabeth Fike as supervisors in the same area. Crow will serve as the division’s property & casualty supervisor, and Fike as the division’s health supervisor.

Commissioner names new health care policy director, appoints new division head

Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger has appointed Linda Sheppard, director of accident and health, to a new position as Special Counsel and Health Care Policy and Analysis Director for the Kansas Insurance Department (KID). Taking Sheppard’s place in the accident and health division is Julie Holmes, who previously was assistant director.

African-American college students can apply for insurance department-sponsored scholarship

The Kansas Insurance Department is seeking applicants for five $1,000 scholarships to be awarded to African-American students enrolled in Kansas universities, colleges or community colleges during the 2013 fall semester. The African-American Monumental Life Settlement Scholarships are part of a nationwide legal settlement regarding premiums charged by Monumental Life Insurance Company to African-Americans. The Kansas Legislature passed a law designating that the state’s share of the settlement money go to a scholarship program for Kansas African-American college students.

Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger has named Jennifer R. Sourk as the director of the Kansas Insurance Department’s Consumer Assistance Division.

Kansas African-American college students can apply for insurance settlement scholarships

Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger is seeking applicants for five $1,000 scholarships to be awarded to African-American students enrolled in Kansas universities, colleges or community colleges during the 2013 fall semester. The deadline for fall semester 2013 applications is May 1, 2013. A scholarship committee of community members and department personnel will review the applications and award the scholarships, which are renewable.
